BIG WEEK FOR ST. MARY’S GAEL’S ALUMNI!

  1. Former Gaels Head Coach Eric Valenzuela skippered Long Beach State in an upset  of No. 8 ranked UCLA Tuesday courtesy of a ‘walk-off’ home–run from Peyton Schulze in the twelfth inning.  The Call on Twitter.
  2. In a calamity field play at the plate, Milwaukee Brewers Corbin Burnes #39, made his appeal.  Burnes engaged the batter, then stepped off the pitcher’s plate and walked toward home plate tossing the ball to the catcher, Manny Piña who stepped on home plate confirming the Brewers appeal.

The beauty of it all was how the Brewers coaching staff milked the time needed for their technical crew to review the footage of the last play by making a mound visit.  Once the call to the Brewers dug-out was confirmed they had ‘Burnesy’ appeal that he “felt” as if Chicago’s Yoán Moncada of the Cubs did not touch home plate.

This was part of a wild day at the ballpark which ultimately ended up giving the Milwaukee Brewers their 4,000th victory in franchise history.
