Different Branches. Common Roots.

Surf-Connection is the gardener, tending the soil and nurturing the roots. Our ‘Ohana Tree organizes the growing ecosystem, with each website serving as a Branch.

LivingInHB is your local Branch.

Circle provides pathways through and between appropriate Branches. TurnerUX sets the pace of communication.

People create the connection.

A little breathing room: TurnerUX

Some of us take a little longer to take things in these days. That doesn’t erase a lifetime of knowledge, experience, or good judgment.

TurnerUX grew from Turner’s own experience with cognitive changes—and the recognition that a welcoming community needs room for different paces.

Here, that means clear language, manageable steps, room to pause, and a next useful action you can recognize. Ask a question. Return to something later. Share what you know when you’re ready.

S.A.D. — Slow And Deliberate.

You don’t have to keep up with everybody. We can slow down enough to hear one another.

The Surf-Connection story

Different paths. One human connection.

Surf-Connection grew from a lifetime spent paying attention to people.

From military service and California’s roadways to Huntington Beach’s shoreline, Tim O’Toole—known to friends as Turner, and in roadside stories as ChippyTim—has watched people help one another through difficult moments, ordinary days, and unexpected crossings of paths.

Some connections began beside a disabled vehicle.

Others began in a briefing room, across a backyard fence, through the lens of a camera, or while waiting for the next set.

Many lasted a few minutes. Some became lifelong friendships.

Each reinforced a belief:

People need calmer places to reconnect, share what they know, preserve what matters, and help one another find their footing.

LivingInHB gives that belief a place to grow close to home.

Around our Huntington Beach Branch

A familiar face in an old surf photograph. A business owner who remembers your name. A neighborhood question somebody nearby can help answer.

Those small connections matter.

Through LivingInHB, we make room to:

  • Know your neighborhood. Share observations, ask useful questions, and explore a Neighborhood Lab for your tract or HOA.
  • Pass something along. A local story, practical resource, photograph, or lesson someone else can use.
  • Meet the people behind the places. Get to know neighbors, local businesses, and the people contributing to everyday life in HB.
  • Lend a hand. Bring your experience, curiosity, or willingness to help someone take their next step.

You don’t need to arrive with a project. A little curiosity is a fine beginning.

From the shoreline to the roadway

Our Branches grow from common roots, each with its own purpose.

HB Surf Photos preserves familiar faces, surf photographs, and moments connected to Huntington Beach.

LivingInHB brings neighbors together through local knowledge, stories, useful resources, and thoughtful introductions.

RoadwayEdge shares public roadway education, observations, and lessons gathered through experience.

SquadClub is a private, member-invited setting for former CHP departmental employees, sworn and non-sworn, and select allied colleagues to reconnect and carry knowledge forward.

OhanaCanna and Living Legacy Cards make room for family voices, photographs, memories, and stories worth preserving.

Other Branches can grow as people bring knowledge to share and a hand they are willing to extend.

Each Branch has its own doorway. Joining one does not automatically open private spaces in another. We Check the Gate with care for the people gathered there.

Built with you, at a human pace

Trust grows through ordinary acts: listening, showing up, making a thoughtful introduction, and passing something useful along.

Our principles travel with us:

  • Family trumps community.
  • A hand up, not a handout.
  • Built with you, not for you.
  • Extend your hand in friendship, never in want.
  • Move slowly and deliberately when the road requires it.

Some visitors will stop by briefly. Others will stay awhile. Founders may help a Branch take root. Stewards earn an invitation to help tend it through trust, care, and meaningful contribution.

There is no race to become more involved. Start where you are. Let us get to know you.

Start in the Mudroom

Social media may be where you discover us. The Mudroom is where our community conversation begins.

Tell us a little about yourself, what connects you to Huntington Beach, and what brought you here today. We’ll help you find the next useful step.

For community questions and introductions, use the Mudroom rather than Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, or social media direct messages. Keeping the conversation together helps us follow through.

Take your time. Have a look around. There’s room to begin.

We live beneath the cloud

Technology helps us preserve photographs, organize knowledge, and bring people within reach of one another.

The connection happens when someone listens, remembers, shares, or extends a hand.

We don’t live in the cloud. We live together beneath it.

Aloha Nui Loa. Welcome to our Branch.
