Do you know what I think is really powerful?
Being able to fill in the back story on a photo or video short. Do you have a ‘back story’ to share? Want to share how you captured the shot? Maybe the subject in the photograph explained what they wanted or you were thinking or doing something else and a frame/subject just appeared at the trigger moment. You captured, ‘moment in time’ created by your ‘stop-action’ photographs!
Like this photo below of a well known surf spot inside Bolsa Chica State Park.
Taken on a crisp, beautifully off-shore, day with the swell building and running 6′ to 8′ outta the W/NW with a 17 second interval. Wind E/NE at 8 to 10kts. with air 62 water 56. There were two guys out and another trying to get out, but with great difficulty.
What I remember is a guy with a Nikon D1? w/ a long-lens on a tripod just below where I took this. The point I’m making there is rarely more that one place on a wave to stop the action so this is why we were grouped where we were. Also, in a about an hour the sun would wash out the surfing waves.
Sidebar- The next day the surf came up a bit but so did the effect of the wind on the surf. It took some doing just to get in the the wave and the wind trying to blow you off the wave and sounded on the ears light a freight train. Once to got into the tube it was glassy and silent from the lip curling around you.

Doesn’t necessarily need to be a great shot but it needs to have a legit back story. It might just be the dogs playing at HB Dog Beach or a roller skater on the boardwalk. It’s your call but our publishing call…with your permission and that of the subject in the photograph.
